what the world doesnt know

Posted in Deep Thoughts, Politics, Uncategorized on June 7, 2008 by afrouzeh

i was reading an article in the newspaper. it was a tragic story about my father’s friend. then father claimed that the report missed out so many details and my dad was puzzled. that totally struck me, you can never trust the mass media. you ALWAYS have to read the news and take it with a pinch of salt. especially in Singapore (and any where else) where the government controls sph and mediacorp. doesnt that make the world a very difficult place to live in, where news you get from the mass media might just be propaganda or well-planned lies. well of course if you are apathetic towards whats happening in the world, this wont affect you at all.

the world is full of really smart elites who are really powerful that even the blue skies can turn pink if they want to. they are the powerful few, who are greedy for more power. its a scary fact, dont you think? they can control every aspect of our lives. altho the society seems more liberal and progressive now then before, the truth is, we’re restricted from all angles. and the saddest part is, we dont even know we’re being controlled and continuously under close supervision, very much through mass media that we worship.

recently shah and i was talking about ‘that guy who escaped prison’. we forgot his name, but thankfully we saw a poster on the bus door, “ahh that guy”. “oh yeahh mas selamat!”. so yeah anyway, remember when mas selamat escaped, the WHOLE of singapore was alerted in a veryveryvery intensive and extensive blow through the mass media. we even had his picture in our phones. isnt that a way to impose upon us the threat that wasnt really there? like, when you saw his picture, you’ll feel scared that he might appear at your doorstep, cos he is a “terrorist”. and i remember a tv interview on ch5 news, this samaritan said “i hope Singaporeans would come together, find him..bla..blaa..keep Singapore safe, its our responsibility..bla bla..” and when you saw that, wouldnt you also feel the same, feel the need to unite with others, find the culprit and keep singapore safe? the power of mass media. and the power of the elites who control the mass media.
this is just a minor influence of the mass media. what about how mass media conceal truths about wars, truths about world hunger and poverty, truths about politics/government and truths that would change the world. i think you all know what i mean la eh.

and the most irritating part is that, even if you know the truths or the truth is revealed, nothing will/can be done to change whats been there. so what if we found out that US gov masterminded the 911 wreckage? so what? the Bush administration will be put on trial? so what if we found out that the war in iraq or afghanistan was meant not to fight terrorism, but simply for US to gain access to the oil there? so what?
who’s gonna charge them? UN? heh.

i watched this documentary (you guys must too!) and then there were statements made by one of US elites, something like this: there are two ways to destroy a country. you can just send a bomb, but its not effective. the other way, is through the countrymen. you destroy their trust, evoke fears in them and let them fight against each other.

watch: zeitgeist the movie

obama

so its almost it. barrack obama claims the democratic nomination. i was like going “baik ahh” when i heard the news on the radio. i think we all secretly knew all along that clinton wont make it. so anyways, i dont really know what to hope for, besides that obama beats mccain flaat. i just cant stand another covetous, selfish, deceitful republican ruling usa (and the rest of the world). i’m just praying for the end of the unnecessary war in iraq. though really, i think the policies drawn out by the republicans and democrats will generally be similar, i just hope that obama wins presidency.

PS: im going for a 3D2N camp on st john’s island tmr. will be back before you notice it. heh.

gd day!
